Links The Renaissance Patch is officially released. You must download and install this patch before June 5th if you wish to keep playing MapleSaga. Please download the client from the main website: Windows (non-Nvidia): https://maplesaga.com/windows-downloads Windows (Nvidia/raid): https://maplesaga.com/nvidia Mac OS X: https://maplesaga.com/mac-downloads To celebrate this exciting change, we have chosen to extend our May EXP event into June! We wish everyone a great upcoming summer. Introduction Four years ago to this day, we released our first major patch, the Around the World patch, in June 2016. With this patch came several mapsets and a ton of new content, which ultimately led to great advances in what we had to offer as a pre-big bang server. This patch helped us to bring Dimension and Crimson Symbol equipment for the end-game, Ulu City for 4th-job Magicians to train at, and Scarlion & Targa/Castellan Toad/Chaos Zakum as additional raids. A server and its community operates like an ecosystem. Ecosystems evolve over time. And a better idea of what quality content looks like for the ecosystem evolves over time. Some of the additions we made in 2016 were useful but the execution of almost all of it was in poor taste. In early 2016, MapleSaga was only 2 months old. My lack of better judgment led to a rush of this content being added because we had naively thought at the time: "mOrE cOntEnt, mOrE pLAyErs" and "EvEryOnE ELsE Is aDDing cOntEnt, wE shOULd tOO". By rushing all of this content into the game, we ended up introducing: A broken Ariant and Magatia with half-finished questlines and no Ariant PQ or Magatia PQ implemented Almost 100% useless Coke Town/Farm Street mapsets A Brazil mapset that was hardly used Furthermore, this mapset was not thematically consistent with the real game as it borrowed assets from the Thailand mapset A Taipei 101/Ximending mapset that was hardly used, and with no properly implemented questlines An Ellin Forest mapset that was only used for the Ellin Forest Boss Rush, and with no properly implemented questlines, and no original Ellin Forest PQ Worst of all, all of these new mapsets led to one major flaw in our client: decreased stability. In April and May 2016, most players could go to Zakum or Horntail raids without experiencing major disconnection issues. After the addition of these mapsets in June 2016, everyone started to experience more crashes and slower load times. The brakes are just as important as the gas pedal. In 2016, we slammed down the gas, and unmitigatedly introduced new content without realizing the consequences. For 2017, 2018 and 2019, players were disconnecting constantly during raids and events. We deeply apologize for this. Ultimately, the new content we've added has been helpful to the server's growth but we did not address the great cost that it came along with. These new mapsets also hurt our ability to add more content, because any further content would prove to make our client even more unstable, causing more disconnections for players. The Renaissance Patch In 2020, the biggest issue we saw among our growing player base was client stability. People crashed too hard and too often. Your complaints were not ignored. We have created a patch that has helped improve the client stability for roughly 80% of Windows players and 100% of Mac players that helped to test it. This means less crashes during raids, faster load times and a better gameplay experience. Furthermore, this gives us a lot more room to improve MapleSaga, as we'll be able to add more exciting content, such as Chaos Horntail, without having to worry about future stability issues. To do this, we had to revisit our changes in June 2016 and reconsider what was worth keeping and what wasn't. Over the last 3 years, we removed Coke Town and Magatia, to help improve the client's stability. This time around, we had to be more aggressive to give you guys the best possible gameplay experience we can offer. We are removing several mapsets (including Ariant) and changing the appearance of one major mapset, Amoria. We firmly believe that the advantages of this change outweigh the disadvantages, as many of these mapsets were broken and hardly used in the first place. More than 80% of our community should experience less crashes and smoother gameplay as a result. Some notes about the removals: Neo Taipei will be removed, but we will be adding an equivalent Time Chamber Boss Rush, with the same bosses and end-game gear available. Crystanol synthesis will not change, and we will be adding a new Time Chamber mapset. Ellin Forest will be removed, but we will be adding an equivalent Sleepywood Boss Rush, with the same Poison Golem boss and end-game gear available. Crimsonwood Keep, Fantasy Theme Park, Ninja Castle and Ulu City will remain the same. These are all areas with working quests and actively-used maps, so they provide much more real value to the game compared to the removed mapsets. The Chapel in Amoria will be removed. All weddings will now be held only in the Cathedral. The Content Lastly, I'm proud to announce that we will be adding a ton of new content alongside this patch. We believe these additions are useful to add and that players will end up enjoying them in-game. Included in the Renaissance patch: Shadowers will be able to use Boomerang Step in mid-air or on ledges (like in the Horntail raid) New SBC hairs New faces New medals New event maps New jump quests New seasonal event content (seasonal monsters/bosses/NPCs/maps) A surprise for the upcoming summer Dozens of new chairs Dozens of new NX mounts Dozens of new NX equipment A "Gachapon (Mount)" ticket which you might get from Ola! Ola!, Money! Money! and many other sources Horntail will no longer "flash" in a buggy way, even on the raid client Fixed the Deep Sea Fishing Chair Added more chairs to the Owl of Minerva search catalogue Various quality-of-life additions, such as an improved way to send compensatory EXP/drop coupons through Duey Preliminary changes for the future Friendship system Preliminary changes for the future Fishing system Preliminary changes for the future Cooking system Preliminary changes for the future Archaeology system Preliminary changes for unisex NX (NX will be unisex in another patch in 2020) Typo fixes We also made some changes to keep our content consistent with the original game: Helios Tower will have a working elevator (that you ride in). This will still be "instant" travel (similar to the Mu Lung stork or Ludibrium train) Kerning City/Singapore will have working airports and plane rides. This will still be "instant" travel Chaos Zakum helmets now glow Ergoth in the Sealed Sanctuary has been replaced with the Ravana boss Wolf mounts will be replaced with the nostalgic Hog mounts. Ryko will be replaced with the Level 200 Draco mount Because we know players will miss their Ryko mounts, we will be handing out free Ryko NX mount covers to players who completed the Champion Challenge before June 15th, 2020 Please note that not all of these changes will be immediately added into the game. Please do not expect new SBC hairs or chairs to be in the game on June 5th. I will reply to this thread with patch notes as content gets officially implemented.
